Training Programme on “Management of Wetland Fisheries” at Piprakothi, Motihari

ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore organized three-day training programme on “Management of Wetland (maun) Fisheries” at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Piprakothi, Motihari for maun fishers of East Champaran district from 6-8 August 2017 under NFDB sponsored project “Fisheries development in four wetlands of East Champaran district of Bihar.

Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister was the Chief guest of valedictory session. Shri Singh said that a large number of fishers livelihood depends on the fisheries in 4 lakhs hectare wetlands in eastern and north eastern part of India, This project for development of four selected wetlands of East Champaran district of Bihar under central sector scheme on Blue revolution will double the production of these wetlands and help in doubling the income of wetland fishers. Six hundred and fifty fishers family will be benefitted from this project. He said that under this project, cage culture, pen culture will be installed and advance size fingerlings will be produced at the maun site for stocking in the maun.

Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI briefed about the NFDB sponsored project and training programme. He emphasized that this training programme in four wetlands namely Kararia, Rulhi, Majharia and Sirsa will help in augmenting fish production in these natural water bodies.

78 fishers of Majharia and Sirsa maun participated in the training programme and got hands on training on different aspects of wetland fisheries management and development.
