Dr. C.D. Mayee, Former Chairman Agricultural Scientists’ Recruitment Board, New Delhi visited the ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute, Jodhpur, Rajasthan today.
Dr. Mayee was accompanied by Shri Bhagirath Choudhary, Board Member, APEDA, Government of India.
On his visit, Dr. Mayee appreciated the working Models of smart agriculture, low-cost polyhouses and the Automatic Input Delivery System in the Precision Farming Block of the Institute. The work done on the systems of integrated farming, agri-voltaic, round-the-Year fodder production through water harvesting and the use of solar energy for the agricultural operations were also applauded by him.
During his discussion with the Scientists, Dr. Mayee was apprised about the impacts of the interventions on the farmers’ income, livelihood and nutritional security in the drought-prone regions. He also suggested the Scientists to look for the issues arising due to the improper soil and water management. Closely monitoring the microbial build-up in the polyhouses in view of the changing climate scenario was also emphasized by him.
Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries, Dr. O.P. Yadav, Director, ICAR-CAZRI, Jodhpur briefed about the evolving challenges in farming of the Arid Zone due to the climate change and improving farm productivity in the situation of depleting water resources.
