The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata celebrated its 76th Foundation Day today.
Delivering his address, the Chief Guest, Swami Shri Mahadevanand Maharaj Ji, Assistant Secretary, Bharat Sevashram Sangh highlighted the importance of the Integrated Fish Farming Technology. He also urged for disseminating the innovation and invention to the common people.
The Guest of Honor, Shri Rajiv Kumar, General Manager, Metal and Steel Factory, Ministry of Defence, Government of India stated that the technology developed by the Institute has revolutionized the fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
Dr. Gauranga Kar, Director, ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres, Barrackpore, Kolkata stressed on increasing per unit water productivity and decreasing water footprints in the agricultural activities.
Prof. S.K. Sanyal, Former Vice-Chancellor, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Kalyani, West Bengal accentuated on the Institute’s efforts even during the difficult period affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Dr. A.P. Sharma, Former Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore emphasized on the Institute’s role in serving the nation since independence and providing the backbone of the aquaculture and inland fisheries revolution in the country.
Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries, Dr. B.K. Das, Director CIFRI, Barrackpore underlined the pioneer role played by the Institute in ushering the Fisheries and Aquaculture Revolution in the country through its research and technology developments. This has enabled the country in enhancing the production of fish by 12 times, since 1950-51, thus making a visible impact on the national food and nutritional security.
