The ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal in collaboration with SAC, Dhaka and International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) organized a regional training program during 5-10 September, 2018 on “Integrated Plant Nutrient Management System in SAARC countries”.
The objective of this training is sharing of ideas, commonalities and solutions among the researchers and other stakeholders of the SAARC countries in relation to integrated plant nutrient management system for improving soil health and crop productivity.
Dr. G. Dev, former Director, Potash Phosphate Institute of Canada- India Programme, as in his valedictory address, emphasized the role of integrated plant nutrient management (IPNM). He urged the delegates to promote IPNS.
Dr. Ashok K Patra, Director, ICAR-IISS, in his presidential address, mentioned about the deteriorating health of soil resources in view of the imbalanced use of fertilizers. He emphasized that there is no other option than the IPNS for maintaining soil health and productivity in the SAARC region and the world.
Ms. Fatema Nasrin Jahan, Senior Program Officer of SAARC Agricultural Centre (SAC), Dhaka thanked the IISS, Bhopal for successfully organizing the Regional training program and congratulated the participants. She mentioned the need of more such capacity building programs in the SAARC region.
The participants include 16 researchers and department officials from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives and Sri Lanka.
