ICAR-NRC on Camel showcases relevance of Camel during International Camel Festival

The ICAR-National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner, Rajasthan facilitated the organization of the International Camel Festival under the joint aegis of District Administration Bikaner and Tourism Department, Government of Rajasthan to showcase the “Camel in Ecotourism” .

Inaugurating the “Agriculture and Livestock Technology Exhibition”, Prof. R.P. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agriculture University, Bikaner, Rajasthan stated that the farmers’-friendly technology exhibits will enhance the awareness and encourage the Camel Rearers to seek for the Entrepreneurial Skills and livelihood from the Agri-Enterprises.

Shri Pushpender Singh Shekhawat, DIG, Border Security Force also graced the occasion.

Dr. A.K. Tomar, Director, ICAR-Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute, Avikanagar, Rajasthan and Dr. B.D. Sharma, Director, ICAR-Central Institute of Arid Horticulture, Bikaner, Rajasthan also participated in the event.

Shri Neeraj K. Pawan, Divisional Commissioner, Bikaner Zone & Shri Bhagwati Prasad Kalal, District Collector, Bikaner stated that the event has the potential to attract more and more national and international tourists to have a glimpse on art, culture, rural life and heritage of the city.

Dr. Artabandhu Sahoo, Director, NRC on Camel, Bikaner highlighted the various alternative possibilities related to the Camel milk and tourism development, etc., that have the potential to revive the opportunity in new forms, provided the camel farmers come forward to adopt a new dimension - “Camel in Ecotourism” that attracts maximum commerce.

A total of 12 Camels participated in Camel Race, 6 in Camel Dance, 17 in Camel Decoration and 9 in Camel Fur-Cutting Competitions organized during the occasion.

The Senior Officials of State Government Departments, State Administration Departments and ICAR Institutes also participated in the event.
