The ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture organized “Farmers” meet and awareness programme on Scientific Aquaculture Development in Manipur” today at College of Agriculture, Imphal. The programme was organized in collaboration with the Central Agricultural University, Imphal; ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hills Region - Manipur Center and Directorate of Fisheries, Government of Manipur.
Dr. M.H. Khan, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary (Fishery) applauded the efforts of ICAR-CIFA and Central Agricultural University for organizing such program under NEH scheme and requested their inputs in preparing Fishery Road Map, for making Manipur self-sufficient in fish production by 2020.
Dr. S.S. Mishra, Head, FHMD, ICAR-CIFA briefed about the main aim and objectives of organizing such programme in Manipur and emphasized on the need to undertake scientific fish farming with proper utilization of natural resources to double-up the farmer’s income.
Dr. B.P. Mohanty, Head, ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore discussed about the availability of nutrients in different freshwater fish and emphasized to undertake fishery in pen and cage culture in different wetlands in Manipur for nutritional security in the region.
A leaflet on Common diseases of fish and their management: Guidance for farmers was also released during the occasion.
Scientists and officials from ICAR Institutes, SAUs and State Govt. attended the programme and discussed on common diseases in freshwater aquaculture and the measures to control them were suggested.
The programme also held Farmers-experts interaction meet.
