Training and Demonstration Programme for Tribal Beneficiaries

cifa-01-14022019.jpgThe ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar under the Scheduled Tribe Component (TSP) organized the “Hands-on-training on Integrated Aquaculture Based Livelihood Development” programme at Gajapati District from 6th to 8th February - 2019.

The programme was organized in collaboration with Soura Development Agency (SDA), Chandragiri, Government of Odisha and Directorate of Fisheries, Government. of Odisha.

Shri Dominic Toppo, Special Officer, Soura Development Agency (SDA), Chandragiri, Gajapati, Odisha inaugurated the programme.

A leaflet on “Integrated Aquaculture” in regional language was released and distributed among the beneficiaries.

Farm and pond visit was also organized to make the participants understand the status of pond, vegetable cultivation unit, mushroom unit, goat farm, broiler farm,

On-site training and demonstration programme on “Scientific Aquaculture Methods” was organized in Suluba village, Mohana block. The tribal groups were taught and demonstrated the water quality examination methods, including liming and fertilization of ponds, fingerling release and disease diagnosis. The advanced fingerlings were also distributed and stocked in all the selected ponds during the programme. All total 150 participants from different Tribal Women SHGs participated in the training programme.

A training programme on “Poultry, Mushroom and Honeybee Farming” was conducted at Chandragiri, Gajapati. During the programme, the Methods of straw and Oyster-mushroom cultivation were also demonstrated. A total of 154 participants from different Tribal Women SHGs participated in the training programme. Various farm inputs namely rice bran, oil cake, lime, vegetable planting materials for backyard kitchen garden, mushroom seeds and aluminum hundi were distributed.

The programme was conducted under the TSP/STC programme of ICAR-CIFA.
