The ICAR-Directorate of Cold Water Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, Nainital organized a three-day "Rainbow trout (O. mykiss) Demonstration-cum-Training Workshop” for the officers and workers of Kannan Devan Hills Plantations Co. Pvt. Ltd. at Rajamallay Trout Hatchery, Munnar, Kerala from 6th to 8th February - 2019.
The demonstrations for seed production, best management practices of the trout hatchery and race ways, water quality management, feed and feeding practices, including health and hygiene of the rainbow trout farming, etc., were carried out during the training.
Around 6,000 eggs were also produced to be maintained at the Rajamallay Trout Hatchery of KDHP, Munnar during the training programme.
The occasion also marked the signing of an MOU between ICAR-DCFR, Bhimtal and KDHP, Munnar to provide the technical support for up-scaling trout production at the age-old hatchery that was established by the British more than 100 years ago.
Dr. Debajit Sarma, Director, ICAR-DCFR mentioned that the farm and hatchery need to be maintained by scientific inputs as the Rajamallay Trout Hatchery, Munnar, Kerala has a tremendous potential for significant production of rainbow trout.
