The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore organized a mass awareness programme for the reclamation of the “Keshapura-Paikasida” oxbow lake in Keshapura village of Jaleswar, Balasore, Odisha today.
Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI stated about the work of ICAR-CIFRI on wetland management in many states namely West Bengal, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Dr. Das accentuated about the in situ rearing of fish seed in the pen culture system in the wetland that is capable to reduce the cost of fish seed. He sensitized the fishers on the community-based approach of fisheries development in the wetland.
Shri Dixit, Co-operative Inspector, Balasore, Department of Fisheries, Government of Odisha also marked his presence during the meeting. He emphasized on the whole hearted support of the community for the development of the wetland. He urged the Institute to sensitize and mobilize the fishers for realizing the freshwater lake for fishery enhancement by the community participation with the involvement of the Department of Fisheries, Government of Odisha through the PFCS.
Shri Atul Das, President and P.C. Nayak, Secretary, Trinath Primary Fisheries Cooperative Society of “Keshapura-Paikasida” wetland along with 300 villagers attended the mass awareness programme.
A Scientists’-Fishers’-Interaction was also organized during the occasion.
