National Workshop on “Fall Armyworm Management in Maize”

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Maize Research, Ludhiana, Punjab and ICAR-National Organic Farming Research Institute, Tadong jointly organized the National Workshop on “Fall Armyworm Management in Organic Maize Production” at the ICAR-NOFRI, Tadong today.

The programme was chaired by Dr. Khorlo Bhutia, Secretary, Department of FS&ADD, Government of Sikkim. In his address, Dr. Bhutia emphasized on the issue of organic pests’ management particularly, in maize. Dr. Bhutia expressed his concerns over the FAW infestation in the maize crop reported from the South Sikkim and also on Quarantine storage management.

Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-NOFRI stressed upon constantly monitoring the crop field for early identification of FAW infestation so that the necessary control measures can be taken with the available technology options.

A total of 140 officers, farmers, farm women and rural youth from East, West, North and South District of Sikkim participated in the programme.
