The ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal organized a One-day Workshop on “ICAR-IISS in the service of farmers” at its campus today.
Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari, ADG, Soil & Water Management, ICAR, New Delhi applauded the IISS staff members for bagging the prestigious “Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR Institution Award”. Dr. Chaudhari released the SQI CAL Software (Software for Soil Quality Index Calculation) and conferred the appreciation certificate to members of the committee involved in preparing the IISS Logo and Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR Institution Award Document.
He urged members for putting their best efforts to maintain the standards at national and international levels paving the way for international collaboration and awards. Dr. Chaudhari also stated the presence of the Institute through the different initiatives of Government of India, such as, “Soil Health Management” and “Soil Health Card” Schemes across the country. He urged the Scientists to obtain the global level funding for research.
Dr. Ashok K. Patra, Director (ICAR-IISS) highlighted the Institute’s activities and research accomplishments. He also thanked all the staff members for the whole hearted support and contribution in achieving the “Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR Institution Award”.
Dr. Rajesh Sharma, DG, Madhya Pradesh Council of Science & Technology (MPCOST), Bhopal emphasized on the real time weather forecasting (Kharif and Rabi), crop modeling, drought assessment and management for the farming community.
Dr. A. Subba Rao, Former Director, IISS highlighted the research activities including basic, advanced research and farmers’ friendly technologies, such as, organic farming and various composting techniques.
Dr. M. Din, Director, ICAR-Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Bhopal highlighted the importance of good soils, seed and water for the sustainable production. He highlighted the importance of machinery in agriculture. He also appreciated the on-going joint collaborative work between ICAR-IISS and ICAR-CIAE, Bhopal.
The progressive farmers from the adopted villages (MGMG, Farmers FIRST and NICRA) were felicitated by the Certificates of Appreciation on the occasion.
The occasion also held “Kisan Gosthi” to address the various soil-related issues in the region.
