Training Programme on Organic Farming for Krishi Sakhis

nofri-01-25072019The 15-day Training Programme on “Organic Farming” for the Krishi Sakhis of the Sikkim Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM), Rural Management and Development Department (RMDD), Government of Sikkim organized by the ICAR-National Organic Farming Research Institute, Tadong, Sikkim was inaugurated here today.

The main objective of the training programme is to update the Krishi Sakhis with the latest organic production technologies.

The Chief Guest, Shri C.S. Rao, IFS, Secretary, Rural Management and Development Department, Government of Sikkim stated that such types of training programmes in the Sikkim State shall improve the capabilities of Krishi Sakhis for learning the latest organic production technologies before going in to the field. He also briefed about various programmes and activities taken up by RMDD for the farmers’ and rural populace of Sikkim’s benefits.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, IFS, Commissioner, RMDD, Government of Sikkim applauded the ICAR-NOFRI’s efforts in the Research & Development and rapid transfer of the technologies through the various training programmes. Dr. Kumar urged the Krishi Sakhis for sharing their learning experience of training programmes for better understanding.

Earlier, Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-NOFRI highlighted the training programmes’ relevance for the Krishi Sakhis. He outlined the Institute’s pivotal role in the women empowerment in Sikkim. Dr. Avasthe stated about the Institute’s role in the dissemination of the improved production technologies for the different crops to the grass root level through the various training programmes.

A total of 25 Krishi Sakhis from the East and North Districts of Sikkim are participating in the training programme.
