Field Day-cum-IPM Awareness Programme organized

The ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack in collaboration with the ICAR-National Centre for Integrated Pest Management, New Delhi jointly organized a “Field Day and IPM Awareness Programme” at Santoshpur village of Basta Block in Balasore District and Aruha Village of Pipili Block in Puri District of Odisha today.

The event was organized under the ICAR-NRRI and ICAR-NCIPM Collaborative Project.

The Chief Guest, Shri Kailash Chandra Parida, Chief District Agriculture Officer of Balasore District highlighted the importance of seed treatment, soil health card, mechanization in minimizing the cost of Pest Management in raising good crop. He also stressed on the need to adopt the pest-resistant varieties with high yielding attributes for minimizing the pest.

Addressing to the farmers, Dr. S.D. Mohapatra, Principal Scientist (Entomology), ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack and Principal Investigator of the Project briefed about the various IPM activities. These include the training imparted to the farmers on correct identification of insect pests, diseases, natural enemies, tools of rice IPM and safe use of pesticides through Farmers Field Schools organized during the crop period.

More than 120 farmers from different villages of Basta Block of Balasore and 50 farmers of Pipili Block participated in the field days and IPM Awareness meet.
