Training on “Sustainable Management of Salt Affected Agroecosystems of Maharashtra for Crop Production” inaugurated

Dr. A.K. Singh Deputy Director General, (Agricultural Extension) inaugurated a four-day training programme on ‘Sustainable Management of Salt affected Soils and Poor quality Water for crop production’ for a group of 14 farmers of Maharashtra (MS) State started at ICAR-Central soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal today. In his interaction with farmers trainees Dr Singh, highlighted the potential of institute’s technologies. He emphasized technologies have greater role to play even in the NICRA adopted villages where KVKs are working, and the 52 centers where FARMER FIRST Project are running.  He further stressed that soils and water/flood stress areas may be identified and SMS of KVKs can be trained at CSSRI about technologies for better demonstration at farmers’ field.

Dr. Prabodh Chand Sharma, Director, ICAR-CSSRI briefed about the role of institute’s technologies including gypsum, sub-surface drainage, artificial ground water recharge structure and salt tolerant crops varieties in reclaiming sodic and saline soils and poor quality waters of India.

This training was designed to make aware the farmers of Ahmednagar district of MS to increase the productivity of salt affected soils. The agricultural land of training participating farmers lies in the canal command areas, and continuous seepage has caused soil salinization.
