Certificate Course on “Soil and Water Conservation and Watershed Management” inaugurated

Four-month Certificate course on ‘Soil & Water Conservation and Watershed Management’ was inaugurated at ICAR- Indian Institute of Soil & Water Conservation, Dehradun today.

Dr. K. Alagusundram, Deputy Director General (Engineering and NRM) in inaugural address said the natural resources are inherited by us from our earlier generations and should be used judiciously so as to keep them intact for sustenance of our future generations. He shared his experience about resource poor countries like Israel which has made tremendous development in the field of agriculture despite having scarce water and soil resources. India as a country are blessed with these resources and is growing in the field of agriculture, but still better things could be done with our efforts for a sustainable development of the country. He suggested the trainees to reach out to the society to spread the knowledge of soil and water conservation and make more people aware about them and learn to value them.

Dr. P.K. Mishra, Director, ICAR-IISWC highlighted the importance of the training in the context of Doubling Farmers Income, PMKSY schemes and its significance particularly for the rain-fed areas of the country.

A total of 25 trainees representing ten different states (Chhattisgarh- 6; Punjab-2; Uttar Pradesh-3; Maharashtra-1, Kerala-1; Karnataka-3; Madhya Pradesh-3; Uttarakhnad-3; Gujarat-1, Jammu and Kashmir-2) are attending the four month course.
