The ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna organized eight-day Model Training Course on “Recent advances in horticulture and post-harvest technologies for livelihood security” from 19th to 26th December, 2019.
In his inaugural address, Shri Sunil Kumar Pankaj, Joint Director, Horticulture, Patna, Bihar highlighted the horticulture’s importance in Eastern India. He stressed on the current rate of adoption of recent technologies by the farmers. Dr. Pankaj also released a Training Manual.
The Chief Guest of the Valedictory Function, Shri Aditya Narayan Roy, Joint Director of Agronomy, Government of Bihar urged the farmers for working hard for a better future. He also emphasized on the horticulture as one of the best options to improve the productivity of land, ensure the nutritional security for mankind and to sustain the livelihood of the farming community worldwide.
The programme sponsored by the Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India was organized for the officials of Agriculture and Allied Departments from the different states.
During the training programme, the various new techniques, such as, vertical farming, micro greens, use of solar energy in horticulture, technologies for the cold arid zone, vegetable grafting, etc., were discussed.
The participants were also exposed to the field visits of commercial strawberry cultivation in Nagarnausa, Nalanda and Center of Excellence on Horticulture at Chandi, Nalanda, Bihar.
A total of 19 Officials from the Agriculture / Horticulture Departments of Gujarat, Bihar, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Dadar & Nagar Haveli and Ladakh participated in the programme.
