Training Programme on Cashew Production and Post-Harvest Technologies for farmers and officers of Meghalaya organized

The ICAR-Directorate of Cashew Research, Puttur, Karnataka has organized a five-day Training Programme on “Cashew Production and Post Harvest Technologies for the farmers and officials from Meghalaya”. The programme will be organized till 14^th February, 2020.

Dr. M.G. Nayak, Director, ICAR-DCR, Puttur highlighted about the immense scope of cashew cultivation in Meghalaya with respect to climate and land availability. He stressed on the need for coming out with the information on most suitable varieties of cashew for Meghalaya regions.

Shri Saurabh Bose, Senior Manager, Inclusive Supply Chain & Enterprise Development, Megha-LAMP, Meghalaya outlined about the activities of Meghalaya Livelihoods Access to Market Project funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development and Government of Meghalaya. The Project is being implemented by Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA). It focus on improving the family incomes and quality of life of the rural mass in Meghalaya through the expanded and sustainable livelihood opportunities adapted to the hill environment and to the effects of climate change.

The training programme has been sponsored by the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA).

The various aspects of cashew cultivation including varietal selection, scientific cultivation and crop management practices, control of pest and diseases, etc., will be covered during the programme.

Around 20 participants including 4 women farmers are attending the programme.
