The All India Coordinated Research Project on Soil Test Crop Response (AICRP-STCR), ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal organized a Capacity Building Programme under the theme “Soil test and yield target based balanced fertilization” today. The programme was organized at Pattiyarkovilpathy Tribal Village, Thondamuthur Block, Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu in the serene foot hills of Velliangiri, Western Ghats.
Dr. Pradip Dey, Project Coordinator (STCR) outlined the details about the fertilizer savings by the adoption of soil test based fertilizer prescription. He also distributed the soil health cards to the tribal farmers under the STC (erstwhile Tribal Sub Plan) Programme.
Dr. D. Jawahar, Professor (SS&AC) emphasized on the importance of soil testing, essentiality for adopting the balanced fertilization.
The scientists conducted a demonstration for the farmers about the collection of soil samples. A low cost folder pertaining to the soil sample collection in Tamil language was also distributed to the participants during the occasion.
The main objective of the programme was to emphasize and create awareness about the soil health.
A total of 27 tribal farmers including 14 women farmers participated in the programme.
