Workshop-cum-Training Programme at Tribal Region of Poonch organized

The ICAR-Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture, Srinagar organized one-day Workshop on “Plant Variety Protection and Farmer’s Right Act” at District Poonch, Jammu & Kashmir today. The workshop was organized in collaboration with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Poonch for the identification, protection, registration and promotion of farmers’ varieties in temperate fruits and nuts.

During the workshop, the farmers showed keen interest in protection of their precious resources by adopting the mode of varietal protection through PPV&FRA. As a part of the TSP Programme, the planting materials of elite cultivars of apple, apricot, walnut and pear developed by the Institute were distributed among the tribal farmers of the region to improve their livelihoods.

The main objective of the workshop was to provide the awareness among more than 100 farmers about the importance of varietal protection with particular reference to walnut, pecan nut and apricot.
