The ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala organized one-day Workshop-cum-Farmers’ Training Programme on “Rainbow diet-achieving food, nutrition and health security through tropical tuber crops” today The workshop was jointly organized in collaboration with the ICAR-Research Complex for North-Eastern Hills Region, Lembucherra, Tripura Centre under the North-Eastern Hills Region Scheme.
The Chief Guest, Smt. Pratima Bhowmik, Member of Parliament, Agartala inaugurated the “Tuber Crops Exhibition” organized by the tribal farmers.
Dr. Dilip Das, Director, T-SAMETI, Department of Agriculture, Government of Tripura and Dr. M. Datta, Former Joint Director, ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region, Tripura Centre highlighted the importance of traditional land races of tuber crops, value-addition and Techno-Incubation Centres.
Earlier, Dr. Biswajith Das, Joint Director, ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region, Lembucherra, Tripura Centre welcomed the famers and other stakeholders.
A Technical Folder entitled “The rainbow diet through tuber crops” authored by Sanket More, ICAR-CTCRI was released during the occasion.
The farmers were also distributed the planting materials of orange fleshed sweet potato namely Bhu Sona and Sree Kanaka along with purple fleshed sweet potato variety - Bhu Krishna and yam var. Sree Neelima.
More than 300 farm women and tribal farmers from the various parts of Tripura participated in the programme.
