icar-rech-01.jpgThe ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region organized a three-day Training Programme on “Establishment and Management of Fruit based Production Systems” from 5th to 7th March, 2020. The programme was sponsored by the ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project on Fruits.

In his address, Dr. A.K. Singh, Head, ICAR-RCER, Farming System Research Centre for Hill and Plateau Region, Ranchi stressed on adopting the multitier and high density planting systems, fruit nursery establishment as well as fruit orchards management for higher income generation. He also urged the tribal farmers for implementing the horticulture-based entrepreneurship models.

The tribal farmers were trained on the different aspects of fruit cultivation namely - fruit orchard establishment, water and nutrients management, fruit propagation, canopy management and plant protection measures during the programme.

The main objective of the programme was to strengthen the tribal farmers’ knowledge regarding the fruit cultivation through multitier and high density planting systems in the plateau conditions of Jharkhand.

A total of 25 tribal farmers (21 men and 4 women) of Gumla and Lohardaga Districts of Jharkhand participated in the programme.
