National Level Virtual Training Programme on “Soil & Water Conservation Technologies for Climate Smart Agriculture in the context of Extreme Weather Events” organized

22^nd February to 5^th March, 2021, Udhagamandalam

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil & Water Conservation, Research Centre, Udhagamandalam organized the Department of Science & Technology sponsored National Level Virtual Training Programme on “Soil & Water Conservation Technologies for Climate Smart Agriculture in the context of Extreme Weather Events” from 22^nd February to 5^th March, 2021.

Dr. R.S. Yadav, Director, ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun, Uttarakhand stressed on the need for framing a policy to address the various agriculture and engineering technologies to combat the climate change effects.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. N.V.K. Chakravarty, Former Professor & Head, Division of Agricultural Physics, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi emphasized on the need for generating the soil maps with precise farm level information for individual farmers using the real time pictures taken using the drones and geospatial data for precision farming.

Dr. Debapriya Dutta, Scientist ‘G’ / Advisor & Head, SEED and  S & T Programme (SSTP), Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India stressed on the need for having the feedbacks from farmers of the region about the activities and training programmes.

Dr. K. Kannan, Head of the Centre emphasized on the importance of new vision in combination with the improved tools and methods to deal with the natural resource management, soil and water conservation technologies under different climate change scenarios.

A total of 52 participants from 12 states across the nation virtually participated in the programme.
