The ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar, Odisha organized a Capacity Building Programme on “Post-Harvest Management and Value-Addition of Fruits and Vegetables for Women Farmers” in Sankilo Village, Nischintakoili Block, Cuttack District, Odisha today.
At the outset, Dr. Lipi Das, Principal Scientist (Agricultural Extension), ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar outlined the importance of processing and value-addition for reducing the post-harvest losses of fruits & vegetables due to market glut. She also stressed on preparing the different value-added products from Mango & Pineapple under the Project on Gender Sensitive Farming System Model for developing the Entrepreneurship among the farm women.
Dr. Sachidananda Swain, Scientist, Agricultural Structures & Process Engineering, ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar highlighted the scientific methods of preparing the different value-added products from fruits and Ready-to-Serve products to enable the farm women get maximum financial benefits by using their available resources and linking the products to markets.
The participants were demonstrated with the transplanting of high yielding Rice Variety - CR DHAN-312 and high protein Rice Varieties, viz., CR DHAN-311 (Mukul), CR DHAN-315 in SRI method of transplanting.
The women farmers were distributed the women-friendly farm tools and equipments, viz., Rice-husk combustor, Hand Winnower (Fan Model), Pedal-operated Thresher, Seed Treatment Drum, Mandwa Weeder, Cono Weeder, etc., during the occasion.
About 70 participants including the Scientists of ICAR-CIWA, Farm Women, Farmers and Personnel from Line Departments participated in the programme.
The programme was organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence.
