Virtual Training Programme on “Hygienic handling and product development from Fish” organized

The ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Veraval Research Centre, Gujarat in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Government of Uttarakhand jointly organized the three-day Virtual Training Programme on “Hygienic handling and product development from Fish” from 16th to 19th September, 2021.

In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest, Smt. Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, Member of Parliament, Tehri Garhwal Lok Sabha Constituency, Uttarakhand outlined the nutritional importance of fish for addressing the malnutrition problems lying particularly, with children and women in the Indian society. She also appreciated the efforts of Department of Fisheries, Uttarakhand to foster collaboration with the ICAR-CIFT, Cochin to utilize the innovative research on fish value-addition and hygienic handling.

The Guest of Honor, Shri H.K. Purohit, Joint Director, Department of Fisheries, Government of Uttarakhand highlighted the Department’s work done for developing the sector in Uttarakhand.

In his address, Dr. Ravishankar C.N., Director, ICAR-CIFT, Cochin emphasized on the Institute’s commitment for the livelihood security of the fisher community by utilizing the enterprising technologies in fish processing. The Institute’s accomplishments in addressing the various problems in the harvest and post-harvest realm in the Indian fisheries were also outlined by Dr. Ravishankar.

The Senior Officials from Department of Fisheries, Government of Uttarakhand; ICAR-CIFT Scientists from its three Research Centres and more than 60 fishers from Tehri Garhwal virtually participated in the programme.
