Inter-State Travel Seminar on Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) organized

The Department of Agronomy, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Punjab in collaboration with the ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Ludhiana; Department of Agriculture, Government of Punjab and NABARD, Chandigarh, Punjab organized an Inter-State Travel Seminar on “Direct Seeded Rice (DSR)” today.

Dr. N.S. Bains, Director (Research), Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana highlighted the importance and role of Direct Seeded Rice in conserving the irrigation water for sustainable agriculture.

Shri Hardev Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Ferozepur, Punjab encouraged the farmers for reaping the benefits of DSR. He also advised the farmers to take bills from the input dealers to avoid cases of frauds.

Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana encouraged the farmers to try the DSR, atleast in smaller fields in the beginning to further the technology adoption on a larger scale.

Dr. S.S. Punia, Former Head (Agronomy), CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, Haryana expressed his happiness over the sharing of experiences among the farmers of the two states.

The visit to the demonstration sites of “Tar Wattar DSR” on a 50 acres area in Karmuwala Village, Ferozepur District, Punjab was also organized during the occasion.

The main objective of the Seminar was to share the experiences and learning of DSR adoption at the grassroots level.

The Seminar registered participation by more than 250 farmers from Punjab & Haryana, Scientists and Officers of different Organizations.
