The ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata in association with the Raybaar Samiti organized an Awareness Workshop on “Potential of Natural fibre in Uttarakhand with special reference to Nettle Fibres” at Laldhang, Haridwar, Uttarakhand today.

Dr. D.B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata highlighted the importance of natural fibres for the sustainable development of the society. He also emphasized that Uttarakhand being one of potential States for Nettle, Vimal and Hemp Fibres production, there is a need for drawing a roadmap for the value-chain of natural fibres.
Shri Prashant Lingual, Forest Officer, Government of Uttarakhand urged the stakeholders for utilizing the important fibres for the different products making.
Ms. Shruti Lakhera, Founder, Raybaar Samiti mentioned that although these fibre plants are available in plenty in Uttarakhand, a technological intervention is very much required in the direction of fibre extraction, retting, yarn making, coloration and product development.
Around 65 participants including farmers engaged in such fibres participated in the Workshop.
