The ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai organized a Webinar-cum-Awareness Programme on “Antimicrobial Resistance in Aquaculture - Who is responsible?” today.
The Internationally Renowned Scientist, Prof. (Dr.) Iddya Karunasagar, Expert Member, World Health Organization Advisory Group on Critically Important Antimicrobials for Human Use marked his presence as the Keynote Speaker during the occasion.
In his Talk, Prof. Karunasagar discussed the basic aspects of antibiotics, mechanism of AMR & its spread and the specific issues pertaining to AMR vis-a-vis aquaculture industry. He also provided the various suitable points and the way forward regarding the confinement of AMR issues in general and related to aquaculture industry in particular.
Earlier, delivering the welcome address, Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA, Chennai outlined the importance of AMR. He also emphasized that the programme will benefit a large number of participants.
About 106 participants including the Scientists, Aqua-Professionals, Stakeholders, Academicians and Students both from India and abroad participated in the Webinar.
