Hands-on-Training Programme on “Diagnostics and Management of Enterocytozoon Hepatopenaei in Shrimp” organized

The Aquatic Animal Health and Environment Division (AAHED) of ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai organized a six-day Hands-on-Training Programme on “Diagnostics and Management of Enterocytozoon Hepatopenaei (EHP) in Shrimp” from 25^th to 30^th October, 2021.

In his inaugural address, Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA, Chennai briefed about the importance of the training programme as the Hepatopancreatic microsporidiosis (HPM) caused by EHP is the major disease causing economic losses in the shrimp farming in the country. Dr. Jithendran also outlined the importance of rapid diagnosis of the disease to prevent the production and economic loss to farmers.

In his valedictory address, the Chief Guest, Dr. Bhaskaran Ravi Latha, Professor & Head, Department of Veterinary Parasitology, Madras Veterinary College, Tamil Nadu University of Animal Sciences, Tamil Nadu delivered a Special Lecture on “How parasites sustain in other hosts, her work on ticks and the importance of developing a lateral flow assay in diagnosis at the farm level”.

A batch of 7 Trainees including the Shrimp Farmers, Consultants and Stakeholders participated in the training programme.
