“The efforts put forth by ICAR-Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal and ICAR-Central Institute of Subtropical Horticulture, Lucknow are commendable”, said Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) and Chairman, Agrinnovate India Limited (AgIn) during the “FUSICONT Technology Transfer” Event held here today. The ICAR granted non-exclusive license of the technology to the Innoterra’s for large scale production and sale of the solution at the farm level globally.
Dr. Mohapatra exemplified the technology development process as true representative of “Public- Public and Farmer Partnership” which needs to be documented and highlighted.
Shri Sanjay Garg, Additional Secretary (DARE) & Secretary (ICAR); Dr. Praveen Malik, Animal Husbandry Commissioner and Dr. K. Srinivas, ADG (IPTM), ICAR from the AgIn’s Board of Directors were present during the occasion.
Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), ICAR; Dr. Anand Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticultural Science), ICAR; Dr. P.C. Sharma, Director, ICAR-CSSRI; Dr. S. Rajan, Director, ICAR-CISH, Lucknow along with Dr. Damodaran, In-Charge, ICAR-CSSRI, Lucknow Station and Innovator of the technology represented the ICAR.
Dr. Sudha Mysore, CEO, Agrinnovate highlighted the importance of ICAR-FUSICONT Technology as a possible game changer for Agrinnovate.
Dr. T. Damodaran and Dr. S. Rajan, who led the development team of the FUSICONT outlined the technical details of the technology.
Dr. P.C. Sharma said that the technology would truly be an example of “Aatma Nirbhar Bharat”.
Dr. Anup Karwa, Head (Operations Crops India), Innoterra stated that the organization is glad to be the first-mover in licensing FUSICONT and conducting planned trials at farms across South Asia for the small- and mid-holder farmers severely affected by the disease. The bio-pesticide has shown promising results in ICAR's large-scale validation in hotspots of India and has proven to be a sustainable solution for the environment.
The Innoterra India, one of India's largest fruit producers and exporters has signed a Licensing Agreement with the Indian Council for Agricultural Research for ICAR-FUSICONT.
The FUSICONT is a bio-pesticide solution that battles Panama Wilt (TR4) disease affecting Cavendish bananas globally which reduces upto 90% production losses and help save livelihoods of thousands of farmers. The bio-pesticide is based on a novel technology that directly targets the deadly fungal disease currently responsible for the destruction of Millions of Tonnes of Banana crops worldwide. The FUSICONT is in advanced stages of commercialization and has also received regulatory approval from Central Insecticide Board (CIB), Government of India. The main aim is to develop a comprehensive solution that achieves complete plant health rather than just the containment of spread.
