The ICAR-Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh and University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Karnataka jointly organized the Webshop on “Karnataka Fodder Resources Development Plan” today.
Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Vice-Chancellor of University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, Karnataka underlined the importance of establishing the alternative niches for augmenting the fodder production, growing of fodder crops on field bunds and fodder cowpea in rice fallows, etc.

Dr. H.D. Narayanaswamy, Vice-Chancellor, Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar, Karnataka outlined the sustenance of the livestock farmers by growing fodder crops, utilization of non-agricultural lands and growing of fodder trees.
Dr. M.B. Chetti, Vice-Chancellor, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Karnataka stressed on the alternative land use systems for fodder production, ensuring availability of quality fodder seeds, planting materials & other inputs and the importance of fodder conservation aspects to tide over fodder scarcity during the lean periods.
Dr. M.S. Palegar, Director, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Government of Karnataka emphasized on the nutrient fortification of crop residues, identification of fodder crops suitable for small ruminants and identification suitable fodder shrubs as alternative for the Mulberry.
The establishment of the fodder research and demonstration plots at the different Centres of the University and Fodder Banks was highlighted by Dr. Abdul Aziz, Director of Research, Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University, Gadag, Karnataka.
Dr. Amaresh Chandra, Director, ICAR-IGFRI, Jhansi highlighted the important research activities carried out by the Institute.
