The 21-day Winter School Training Programme on “Underexploited Vegetables: Unexplored Treasure Trove for Food, Nutritional and Economic Security” organized by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh from 2nd to 22nd February, 2022 concluded today.


Delivering the valedictory address, Prof. Kalplata Pandey, Vice-Chancellor, Jannayak Chandrashekhar University, Ballia, Uttar Pradesh emphasized for exploring the unexploited potential of under-utilized vegetables on the various aspects like adoption to biotic and abiotic stresses, nutritional and therapeutic uses, climatic resilience and scaling-up of these crops at the commercial level. Prof. Pandey also urged the participants for involving in the systematic study of the under-exploited vegetables which are the future crops of nutritional security and economic prosperity of the nation.
Dr. T.K. Behera, Director, ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi outlined the main objective of the programme to focus on the nutritional, medicinal and economical importance of the under-exploited vegetables.
A total of 25 Faculty Members, Scientists, Subject Matter Specialists and other participants from across the country participated in the training programme.
