Shri BandaruDattatreya, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Labour and Employmentinaugurated Farmers Day at ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad here today. In his address as the Chief Guest he elaborated on various farmer friendly schemes of Government for uplifting of the farm income. He also flagged off the Agriculture mobile van (365X12) which can cater the needs of the farming community.
Shri. Swamy Goud, Chairman, Telangana Legislative Council, Guest of Honour of the event emphasised the need for popularisation of the technologies developed by the IIRR for the benefit of the farming community especially Telangana.
Shri SudheerBharghava, and Shri R.P. Singh, Governing Body members ICAR, Dr. Jaipal Reddy, APEDA member also stressed the need to popularise the farmer friendly technologies and protecting the soil with organic agriculture.
Dr. J. S. Sandhu, Deputy Director General (Crop Sciences) ICAR, also emphasised the need for enhancing the farmers’ income and develop technologies for the resource poor farmers.
Shri. Dushcerla Satynarayana inspired farmers by mentioning about new Technology developed by IIRR.
Earlier, Dr. V. RavindraBabu, Director in his welcome address highlighted the role of IIRR in serving the interests of rice farmers across the country. He outlined various programmes and activities being carried out at the Institute to address the challenging problems of the rice farming community.
Eight progressive farmers were felicitated for their outstanding contribution in the field of agriculture.
An exhibition was put up by ICAR Institutes, Prof. Jaishankar Telangana State Agricultural University and 25 private agro-input agencies to showcase latest technologies and high yielding varieties.
About 1250 farmers across the state participated in the one day mega event.
