Hands-on-Training Programme on “Making of Jute Diversified Products for Economic Empowerment of Farm Women of the Sundarbans” concludes

The 6-day Training Programme on “Making Jute Handicrafts for Women of Sundarbans Region” organized by the ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres, Barrackpore, Kolkata from 11th to 16th April, 2022 concluded today.

The programme was organized under the Multi-National (Australia, Bangladesh, India and Indonesia) Project on “Protecting Ecosystems and Livelihoods of the Sundarbans, a World Heritage Site: Assessing the Impact of Natural Hazards on Forest and Jute-based Ecosystems” in association with the Asia Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN-GCR) & University of Sunshine Coast, Australia.

Delivering his valedictory address, Dr. Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF, Kolkata provided an insight on the importance of the Jute-based diversified products in the National and International markets.

During the 6-day programme, the participating farm women were imparted with the practical Hands-on-Training for making the Jewelleries and other decorative items made from the Jute Fibre.

More than 15 Farm Women, NGO Representatives from the Sundarbans and other trainers participated in the programme.
