Workshop on “Bio-waste Resource Management for Sustainable Agriculture” organized

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal and Bhopal Chapter of the Indian Society of Soil Science jointly organized the Workshop on “Bio-waste Resource Management for Sustainable Agriculture” today.

The Chief Guest, Dr. S.S. Khanna, Former Advisor, Planning Commission, Government of India and Vice-Chancellor, Acharya Narendra Dev University of Agriculture & Technology, Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh stated about the achievement of remarkable growth in food production in the post-green revolution period in the country. He expressed his concerns about the second generation problem like soil degradation due to the intensive cultivation and imbalanced use of fertilizers, declining soil organic carbon, lowering of water table, climate change and lack of plant genetic ideotypes being faced by the country. It is therefore, vital for us to consider the efficient utilization of all available organic wastes and meet the challenges for food and environmental security. Dr Khanna mentioned that the bio-wastes management is possible with awareness and participation of people, local urban bodies, State and Central Governments.

Dr. A.K. Patra, Director, ICAR-IISS mentioned about the relevant technologies developed by the Institute for the management of bio-waste.

The two Theme Papers on “Potential technologies to recycle Bio-wastes” and “Efficient residues management in Conservation Agriculture for Sustainable Soil Health and productivity” were presented during the workshop.

The Officials from Government of Madhya Pradesh and ICAR-IISS participated in the workshop.
