“The Krishi Vigyan Kendras should focus more on the small & marginal farmers and organize them through the Farmers’ Producers’ Organizations for better access to the inputs and markets”, urged Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare. Shri Tomar was delivering the inaugural address of the “Virtual 28th Zonal Review Workshop of KVKs of ICAR-ATARI, Jabalpur” organized by the ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh from 26th to 28th July, 2021.
The Union Minister applauded the KVK’s work in technology dissemination during the challenging times COVID-19 Pandemic along with the various interventions in ICAR-ATARI, Jabalpur namely - Kadaknath Poultry Rearing, ARYA, CFLD Pulses and Oilseeds. Shri Tomar also urged the KVKs for focusing on micro-irrigation, enhancing farmers' knowledge for doubling their income, collaboration with the State Departments for increased outreach, employment generating activities, soil health through regular soil testing and traditional farming, etc.
During the session on “Current importance of Nutritional security through Nutri-SMART Village”, Smt. Archana Chitnis, Former Minister of Women and Child Development, Government of Madhya Pradesh emphasized on the importance of Atma Nirbharta for nutrition by growing vegetables and fruits at nutri-garden.


Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR highlighted the various works like Raised Bed Cultivation of Soybean, Kadaknath Poultry Rearing, Nutrition Garden, Nutrition Mapping of the District, Biofortified Crops Cultivation, Demonstration of Technologies and Seed Production of Pulses, etc. Dr. Singh emphasized on the collaboration of ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institutes with the ICAR Institutes. He also urged the KVKs for focusing on the secondary agriculture. The DDG stressed on encouraging the Agripreneurs to focus on Building Processing Units.

Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), ICAR highlighted the importance of the allied sectors like Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, etc., for enhancing the farmers’ income.
Dr. V.P. Chahal, ADG (Agricultural Extension), ICAR urged the Director of Extension Services for focusing on building the extension models and regular capacity building of the newly recruited Scientists and Heads of KVKs.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. S.R.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh presented work done by KVKs in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
The functioning of KVKs, Farmers’ experiences on Doubling Income, promoting resilience in Rainfed Agriculture for risk minimisation, nutritional security through Nutri-SMART village, Farmers’ Producers’ Organisations, Tribal focussed activities, ICAR Technologies on doubling farmers’ income, ITK in agriculture and review of KVKs’ performances, etc., were discussed during the Workshop.
More than 300 participants from the Krishi Vigyan Kendras, ICAR Institutes, State Agricultural Universities and Farmers attended the Workshop.
