Workshop Organized at Allahabad Regional Centre of CIFRI

Allahabad Regional Centre of Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI) organized a workshop on ‘Matsyikee Kshetra Main Rojgar Ke Avasar’ on World Fisheries Day on 21st Novermber 2013. The objective of the programme was to sensitise the fish farmers, fishers and fish traders of Allahabad about the available options of employment in the fishery sector and to bring together the stakeholders.

Dr. U.C. Srivastava, Senior Professor, Department of Zoology, Allahabad University as the Chief Guest focused on the importance of fish as a food item for nutritional security and issues related to livelihood of fishers. 

Dr. K.D. Joshi, Head of the Regional Centre highlighted the association of the Centre with IIT Consortium in Ganga River Basin Management Plan and with WWF-India in Environmental Flow studies conducted during Mahakumbh-2013.

An exhibition was also organized on the occasion. Nearly 120 participants including fish farmers, fishers, fish traders, officials of state fisheries department, scientists of CIFRI, researchers and students participated in the programme.

Dr. K.W. Warsi, Deputy Director Fisheries, Allahabad; Dr. Rajjev Jaitley, AGM, NABARD; and Dr. S.L. Gupta, Joint Director, Botanical Survey of India (BSI), Allahabad were also present on the occasion.
