Kisan Sangoshthi organized

The ICAR-Directorate of Onion and Garlic Research, Pune, Maharashtra in collaboration with the G.K. Research and Development Foundation, Varanasi and Agrimitra Farmers’ Producers’ Company, Mirzapur organized a “Kisan Sangoshthi” at Purushottampur, Narayanpur Block, Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh today.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Gautam Kalloo, Former Deputy Director General (Horticultural Science), ICAR & Former Vice-Chancellor, JNKVV, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh applauded the ICAR-DOGR’s efforts in development and transfer of technology on onion and garlic in the country. He stressed on giving more attention in development of storage capacity and reducing post-harvest losses. He stated that the stabilization of onion prices and doubling farmers’ income are big challenges, but it would happen when farmers adopt commercial cultivation of Kharif onion.

  The Special Guest, Dr. Major Singh, Director, ICAR-DOGR, Pune, Maharashtra outlined the immense potential of the area for Kharif onion cultivation.

Shri Lal Bahadur Singh, Director, Agrimitra Farmers’ Producers’ Company stressed on giving more attention towards policy framework to mitigate the price crises in onion.

The senior officials of ICAR Institutes also participated in the event.

A total of 355 progressive farmers including 212 women farmers from the different parts of Mirzapur, Varanasi, Sonbhadra, Azamgarh, Ballia and Vindhyachal attended the programme.
