The six-day “Farmers’ Training Programme under the Government of India’s Scheduled Caste Sub Plan Programme” organized by the ICAR-National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning, Regional Centre, Jorhat, Assam in collaboration with the Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam from 22nd to 27th February, 2021 concluded today.
In his valedictory address, the Chief Guest, Dr. M. Saikia, Associate Director of Research (Agriculture), Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam emphasized on incorporating the multiple agri-enterprises in the same piece of land that increases cropping intensity, farm productivity and farm income. He urged the farmers to prepare themselves for copping-up with the challenges posed by the rapid climate changes. Dr. Saikia also encouraged the farmers to take the advantage of improved technologies developed by the AAU, Jorhat, Assam and ICAR make their agricultural production systems more sustainable.
The resource persons during the programme emphasized on practicing improved and scientific agriculture, keeping an eye on commercial production, value-addition of the products with special reference to the organic agriculture.
The programme organized on the seven different aspects of Agri-Entrepreneurship was aimed at providing the exposure to the Scheduled Caste farmers of the adopted villages of Jorhat District, Assam about the most recent scientific developments in the different aspects of agricultural science for enabling them to develop their skills and improve their livelihood condition by adopting relevant enterprises.
A total of 40 farmers from four Scheduled Caste villages participated in the programme.
