ICAR-CIWA celebrates its 26th Foundation Day

The ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar, Odisha celebrated its “26th Foundation Day” today.

In his inaugural address, Dr. R.C Agrawal, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Education), ICAR emphasized on organizing national, international workshops in future and suggested conducting regular collaborative meetings with the All India Coordinated Research Project on Home Science, stakeholders for further excellence of the Institute.

The DDG also released the various publications namely - “Development of Gender Sensitive Entrepreneurship model through Institute-Industry-Stakeholders’ linkage in Convergence Mode”, “Women Empowerment and Gender Sensitization - Developing a Model for Bridging Gender Gap” and “A Potential Livelihood Option for Rural Women of Odisha”, etc., during the occasion.

Dr. P.S. Pandey, ADG (EP&HS), ICAR stated that by looking into the past achievements, the Institute needs to formulate a roadmap for achieving its future targets.

Dr. Vinita Sharma, Former Advisor & Head, Science for Equity, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India; Former Chairperson, RAC, ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar, Odisha delivered the Foundation Day Lecture on “Gender Sensitization for nutrition sensitive agriculture”.

In her lecture, she briefed about the impacts of malnutrition, especially, for infant and neonatal mortality. She also put forth that in spite of inequality and socio-economic disadvantages, the rural poor women have to bear the double burden of earning a daily income and providing food and nutritional security to the family, at whatever level it may be possible.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. S.K. Srivastava, Director, ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar, Odisha highlighted the Institute’s numerous achievements for the year 2020-21. He also emphasized on the Institute’s contribution towards the empowerment of women and enhancement of economic and nutritional security of farm families through its extensive research and extension activities.
