ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata, and Krishi Vigyan Kendras organised a 2-day Zonal Workshop on scaling Natural Farming at Rathindra KVK, Visva-Bharati.
Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata emphasised the importance of natural farming for reducing input cost, improving the profit of the farming community, and reducing carbon footprint. He also accentuated on synergy between natural farming, ecosystem services, and the ‘One Health’ concept to save the health of soil, plants, animals, and humans in a continuum.
Dr. A.K. Barik, Principal, Palli Siksha Bhavana, Sriniketan, Visva-Bharati said that Natural Farming should be taken to the grassroots level through increased awareness and by establishing a scientific basis of practices.
Dr. S.S. Dana, Vice Chancellor, West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences, and Kolkata, Dr. S. Mandal, Head, Rathindra KVK, was also present during the programme.
Stakeholders were provided with publications on natural farming, and poster and video competitions were organized during the event.
All the 34 KVKs of Zone – V implementing the Natural Farming project from Odisha, West Bengal Andaman & Nicobar Islands participated in this programme.
More than 60 participants attended the workshop.
