ICAR-CIBA launches project on Geospatial Mapping

Govt. of Maharastra funded a project ‘Geospatial mapping of potential zones for the expanding responsible aquaculture in Maharashtra’ under ICAR- Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Mumbai. The project aims at expanding aquaculture with environmental sustainability, without multi-user conflicts, while preserving mangroves and agriculture fields.

Shri. Sudhir Sachchidanand Mungantiwar, Union Cabinet Minister of Forest, Cultural Affairs, and Fisheries, highlighted the importance of developing aquaculture in Maharashtra by utilizing the resources in an environmentally sustainable manner to take care of Farmers, Fisheries, and Forests.

Dr. Kuldeep K. Lal, Director, ICAR-CIBA, emphasized the importance of the project and CIBA technologies and acknowledged the Department of Fisheries for supporting eco-friendly aquaculture development.

Dr. Atul Patne, IAS, Commissioner of Fisheries, Govt. of Maharashtra, briefed about the project and its importance.

Dr. Ramo Rao, IAS, Additional Principal Conservator of Forest, stated the initiative of mangrove cell and mangrove foundation in protecting the mangroves in Maharashtra.

Dr. C.N Ravishankar, Director, ICAR-CIFE, Mr. Yuvraj Chougule, Joint Commissioner, Department of Fisheries, and other officials from the Department of Fisheries, Mangrove Cell, and Mangrove Foundation, participated in the programme.
