ICAR- Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture, Lucknow and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, New Delhi, successfully exported and validated the Indian Grand Naine banana from the Mumbai Port in a 20-tonne Container through a joint trial shipment effort from the exporter INI Farms, Baramati and importer DELMONTE, Netherlands.
ICAR-CISH, developed sea protocols for the sea route export of mango and banana using innovative organo peptides and lipids. CISH METWASH an organic wash formulation was developed to increase the shelf life of mango to 32 days and banana to 47 days at 17 and 13 degree temperatures according to the container. This resulted in the removal of inorganic chemicals like Bavistin and Sodium hypochlorite currently used in the export protocols of the above fruit crops.
The protocol was successfully validated in banana which was shipped from the Indian Mumbai port on 10th November 2023 and was opened and tested for its quality at Rotradam port of Amsterdam, Netherlands on 5th December 2023 in the presence of the Secretary, Embassy of India, Importer DELMONTE experts, News media from Amsterdam and Quality Control Experts from Netherlands.
The fruits from the pellets of the ICAR-CISH METWASH technology showed a significant reduction in stem end rot, anthracnose and bruising. No fungal infection at the tips enabled it to proceed to the markets after ripening. The technology was a grand success and was recommended for export through the sea route.
