ICAR-CSSRI’s Rabi Kisan Mela-2023

ICAR-Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal organised a Rabi Kisan Mela today , at Village Karontha, Distt Rohtak.

Dr Satbir Singh Kadian, Chief Executive Officer, Haryana Water Resources Authority inaugurated the Kisan Mela. He encouraged the farmers to be smart farmers while using smart seed and smart technologies with changing climate scenario. He also urged the young farmers to come forward in agriculture, inculcating their education and traditional knowledge and utilize modern and advanced agricultural practices.

 Dr Kadian also emphasised vegetable cultivation along with crop production to fulfil the growing food demands. The importance of soil health cards was elaborated to save the soil and water for the coming generations. He encouraged the farmers of the region to place major focus on allied sectors like horticulture, dairy, fishery, and natural farming for handsome returns.

 Dr Satbir Singh Kadian lauded the efforts of CSSRI in sustaining the crop production through salt tolerant varieties, SSD and agroforestry.

While welcoming the chief guest,  Dr R K Yadav, Director ICAR -CSSRI lauded the efforts unleashed by CSSRI in reclaiming the salt affected lands leading to 160-170 lakh ton crop production generating 24 thousand crores of monetary benefit to the farmers.

He emphasized soil and water conservation with best use of poor quality water in crop production and highlighted the technologies developed by the institute helping in increasing farmer’s income.

During the Kisan Goshthi, scientists of the institute briefed about the latest salt tolerant varieties of wheat, mustard, chickpea, lentil etc with enhanced crop production in the salt affected and waterlogged saline areas.

The Mela showcased improved technologies for salinity reclamation and management, crop diversification, integrated farming, horticultural crops, agroforestry etc. A total of 10 innovative farmers from villages adopting CSSRI technologies were also felicitated on this occasion.
