ICAR-DCFR Unveils Sustainable RAS Technology for Small-Scale Rainbow Trout Farming in the Indian Uplands

ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, has developed an innovative farmer-friendly small-scale RAS technology for rainbow trout farming in hills, with unique features that makes it cost-efficient and sustainable.

This technology was developed under the guidance of Dr. Pramod Kumar Pandey, Director, and ICAR-DCFR and meticulously tested by the team of scientists of ICAR-DCFR.

Shri. V.K. Bisht, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Dehradun, Shri. Ashok Kumar Pandey, Chief Development Officer, Nainital, Dr. N. N Pandey, Head (I/C) Fisheries Resource Management & Principal Scientist, ICAR-DCFR-Bhimtal were present during the programme.

ICAR-DCFR Unveils Sustainable RAS Technology for Small-Scale Rainbow Trout Farming in the Indian Uplands

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the cooperating lead farmers. The operation of the prototypes of the RAS developed by ICAR-DCFR was showcased and deliberations were made on the techno-commercial feasibility of the project.

The demonstration of this innovative RAS technology will address major issues related to high capital costs, electricity requirement, resource usage and skill development to support the livelihood of hill populace.
