ICAR-NBFGR empowers 50 Scheduled Caste community women through ornamental fish Pathshala

ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow, organised an Ornamental Fish Aquarium Pathshala to empower women from the Scheduled Caste community as a step towards livelihood empowerment under Mission Navshakti of the SCSP Project. The Pathshala concept aims to provide livelihood opportunities and knowledge in aquarium fish keeping and rearing as part of the Scheduled Castes Sub Plan project, fostering economic empowerment.

Dr. U K Sarkar, Director ICAR-NBFGR, and Dr. Poonam Jayant Singh, Nodal Officer, SCSP project, were present during the programme.

Women from Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden in Lucknow visited the Machli Ghar, an ornamental fish rearing and maintenance facility, under the Pathshala programme. The visit inspired the group to pursue this career, demonstrating the potential for women to become entrepreneurs in the aquarium fish industry.

A total of 50 women from various Self Help Groups, participated in the Ornamental Fish Aquarium Pathshala under Mission Navshakti at the Ganga Aquarium and Museum of ICAR NBFGR.
