ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering & Technology, Kolkata, and Jute Corporation of India have signed a MoU to jointly establish laboratories across the Departmental Purchase Centre under JCI's aegis. These Common Facility Centres will house the grading instruments developed by ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata for grading of raw jute that will ensure quality and better price to the jute farmers for their hard-earned crop.
Dr. D.B. Shakyawar, Director of ICAR-NINFET, and Shri A.K. Jolly, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of JCI, signed an MoU at the global mega textile event 'Bharat Tex - 2024', organized by the Ministry of Textiles in New Delhi from February 26th to 29th, 2024. Smt. Dashana Vikram Jardose, Union Minister of State for Textiles & Railways, Govt. of India, was also present during the signing of the MoU.
The MoU outlines the installation of jute grading instruments developed at ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata, at Departmental Purchase Centres in various jute-growing states of India. One such Common Facility Centre has already been established at Katwa DPC, Purba Burdwan District, West Bengal, catering to local jute growers.
