ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun, organised the Mithun Mela-cum-Technology Injection Programme, to empower Mithun Farmers in Loth Village, lower Subansiri, Arunachal Pradesh today. The programme was held in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Development, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh, and other line departments. The programme aimed to promote sustainable practices in Mithun farming by bringing together Mithun farmers, researchers, and government officials to exchange insights, innovations, and experiences.
The Chief Guest, Shri Taba Tedir, Minister of Education, Cultural Affairs & Indigenous Affairs, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh, underscored the pivotal role of such initiatives in advancing Mithun practices in Arunachal Pradesh. Shri. Tedir emphasized the government's support for improving Mithun farming practices. He highlighted the significance of technology infusion and knowledge dissemination for Mithun development in Arunachal Pradesh. Attendees pledged to utilize newfound knowledge to enhance Mithun rearing.
The Guest of Honour, Shri S Gurung, ADC, Yachuli, emphasized the importance of scaling up operations to enhance income opportunities for farmers. Gurung's advice underscored the potential for large-scale Mithun farming to boost economic prosperity in the region.
Dr. Girish Patil, S., Director of ICAR-NRC on Mithun, spoke about the commercialization of Mithun farming, highlighting its FSSAI approval and premium market potential. He recommended utilising the M-Anitra trading app for efficient online Mithun trading and emphasised the importance of organic certification. Dr. Patil urged the farmers to explore value-added meat and milk products for increased revenue.
Later, a Farmers-Scientists-Veterinary officer’s interface meeting was held fostering collaborative discussions and knowledge exchange among Mithun stakeholders. This interactive session helped to bridge the gap between research findings and practical applications, further enhancing the Mithun farming ecosystem.
About 467 Mithun farmers attended the programme and 56 Mithuns were ear-tagged and vaccinated against FMD during the event.
