Milestone Achievements of Fisheries Science

  • Extended and multiple breeding of Indian major carps for year round seed production.
  • Technology of intensive carp culture and production levels of 10-15 tonnes/ha/yr.
  • Developed improved Rohu (Jayanti) with 17% higher growth realization per generation after eight generations through selective breeding.
  • Species diversification of freshwater aquaculture for over a dozen of important fish species such as carps (Labeo calbasu, L. fimbriatus, L. gonius, L bata, L. dyocehillus, Cirrhinus reba, etc.), catfishes (Clarias magur, Ompok pabda, O. bimaculatus, Horabagrus brachysoma, etc.), other miscellaneous species (Channa striatus, Anabas testudineus, Chitala chitala, etc.)and freshwater prawns (Macrobrachium rosenbergii and M. malcolmsonii), including packages of practices of their breeding and seed production.
