The ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, organized its IX Convocation here today
Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Union Minister of State for Finance, Chief Guest of the event, appreciated the efforts made by the Institute in undertaking the central governments initiatives like “Mera-Gaon-Mera Gourav”, “Attracting and Retaining Youth in Agriculture”, “Swatch Bharat Abhiyan”, “Sansad Adarsh Gram Yogna” and adopting “Farmers FIRST” program, where several surrounding villages have been adopted.
On the occasion 379 M.V.Sc. and 258 Ph.D. degrees, Best Teacher Award (9), Best Student Award, Dr SK Talpatra Award, Dr UR Mehra, Dr G Butchaiah, Dr SS Prabhu Award, and Dr Uppal Award, for the period from 2013 to 2016 were conferred by the Chief Guest.
Shri Gangwar released the “Signature” of ICAR-IVRI which symbolizes the significant contributions of the institute in eradication of dreaded animal diseases. He also released an important technology “Japanese encephalitis-ELISA kit (IgG) for swine”. This kit will be helpful for detecting antibodies in swine serum and is cost effective.






Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in his message congratulated the degree winning students for their achievements.
Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR presided over the function.
Dr Raj Kumar Singh, Director and Vice-chancellor, ICAR-IVRI, in his welcome address reported that till 2013 the Institute has conferred 105 M.Sc., 1932 M.V.Sc. and 956 Ph.D. degrees. He also said the Institute has introduced the VCI accredited B.V.Sc. & A.H. Degree programme in the year 2015. He briefed about the scientific contributions of the institute especially its role in the eradication of important diseases of livestock such as Dourine, African horse sickness; CBPP and Rinderpest.
Four publications on “Wildlife Health Management”, “Color Atlas on Foot-and-Mouth Disease”, “IVRI Alumni Newsletter” and “Native Chicken and Rural Poultry Production: CARI Initiative” were also released by the dignataries.
Shri Dharmendra Kashyap, Member of Parliament, and Dr H Rahman, Deputy Director General (Animal Sciences) ICAR, Vice Chancellors of Veterinary Science and Animal Science Universities. Directors of Animal Science Institutes also graced the occasion
IVRI is a premier research organization in veterinary and animal sciences has patented 6 technologies, including one PCT and commercialized 29 technologies to 94 commercial houses.
