Interface Meeting on KVK Extension System, Technology Application Research and Dissemination with line Departments and KVKs of Sikkim

ICAR- Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone-VI, Guwahati, organised an interface meeting on “KVK Extension System, Technology Application Research and Dissemination” at Krishi Bhawan, Department of Agriculture, Government of Sikkim today.

The meeting was attended by Shri. Jigme Dorjee Bhutia, IAS, Secretary Agriculture-cum-Secretary Raj Bhawan; Dr. G. Kadirvel, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI, Guwahati; Shri. Tilak Gajmer, Principal Director Agriculture, Government of Sikkim; Shri T. T. Bhutia, Director, Agriculture; Dr. K.T Bhutia, Director AH&VS; Shri. Bhim Dahal, Director Horticulture; Shri. Suman Kr. Sharma, Director Horticulture; along with other Additional Directors from Agriculture, Horticulture, Sr. Scientist & Head from four KVKs of Sikkim along with a scientific, technical and administrative staff of KVKs.

Dr. Kadirvel, accentuated the issues about KVKs, the Vibrant Village program, Zero Hunger Village, the functionality of KVK and ICAR System, Extension system, technology assessment and refinement, technology dissemination, adoption and administrative & financial issues of   KVKs in Sikkim. He urged the house to increase technology convergence, emphasize crop diversification, intensify cropping, promote speciality produce, and foster entrepreneurship.

Shri. Bhutia, said that KVKs have to be the mirror of technology in the state for the benefit of the farming community of Sikkim. He suggested that KVKs need to enlist the technologies they have so far recommended and encouraged the officials of Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry to include these technologies in their respective schemes.
